Discover Bellevue

The community of Bellevue was founded in 1903 on land owned by West Canadian Collieries Limited, a French-based company with substantial holdings throughout the Crowsnest Pass.

Hillcrest

Coal mining throughout the Crowsnest Pass has always been a dangerous venture. Although the Hillcrest Mine was not immune to accidents, in the early years of the 20th century many miners regarded it as one of the safest mines in the Crowsnest Pass, until the morning of June 19, 1914.

Frank

In 1903, at 4:10AM eighty-two million tonnes of limestone broke loose from the top of Turtle Mountain and slid down into the Crowsnest River Valley below. The slide lasted less then 100 seconds and totally obliterated everything in its path.

Blairmore

On July 1, 1916, following a province-wide referendum, the Alberta Liquor Control Act, or “Prohibition”, became law, limiting the amount of alcohol a private citizen or business could possess.

Coleman

In 1903, the International Coal and Coke Company acquired 5,300 acres of land that included the future location of Coleman. A townsite was surveyed, lots were quickly purchased and by the end of 1904 the village had a growing population of five hundred.
